DETROIT HEALTH DEPARTMENT TO MOVE TO NEW LOCATION,
VITAL RECORDS DIVISION RELOCATING TO CITY AIRPORT
 
The Detroit Department of Health and Wellness Promotion (DHWP) will move its operations, including the Vital Records Division, to new facilities as the Herman Kiefer complex closes permanently on October 22.
 
The Vital Records Division will be closed beginning October 23 and reopen on Nov. 4 on the second floor of the passenger terminal at the Coleman Young International Airport (formerly City Airport), 11499 Conner near Gratiot. During this period, funeral directors will be served except on Monday, Oct. 28. The division provides birth certificates and death records for those who were born or died in the city of Detroit.
 
During the closure, individuals may still apply for birth certificates and obtain death records. Go to www.detroitmi.gov/health for more information.
 
Detroit Department of Health and Wellness Promotion administration offices will close on October 23 and move to 1600 W. Lafayette Blvd. on the second floor of the Municipal Parking Department building.  Administrative offices will reopen on October 29.  

ADAMS BUTZEL RECREATION CENTER OFFERING CARDIO-KICKBOXING & TONING AND ZUMBA CLASSES THROUGH DECEMBER
 
Want to get in shape and have fun doing it?  Give cardio-kickboxing or Zumba a try.  The Adams Butzel Recreation Center is holding cardio-kickboxing& toning classes on Tuesdays from 6-7 p.m.  It is also holding Zumba classes on Thursdays from 6-7 p.m.  Both classes run through the middle of December.  Adams Butzel is located at 10500 Lyndon.  The cost of each class is $25 for 10 weeks.   You can register at the Adams Butzel Recreation Center, or call (313) 628-0990 for more information.  

MUNICIPAL PARKING DEPARTMENT TO BEGIN
SPECIAL VEHICLE ENFORCEMENT
Citizens May Use Hotline to Report Abandoned and Illegally Parked Vehicles
 
The Detroit Municipal Parking Department has set up a special hotline for citizens to call and report abandoned vehicles and request special enforcement for illegally parked vehicles. Citizens are urged to call (313) 221-2558. Enforcement officers will respond within 24 hours. 
 
A vehicle is deemed abandoned (Division 4 Section 55-6-85 of the City Code) if:
• The vehicle is on a public street, highway, alley or public place for 48 continuous hours or more and appears to be unclaimed, discarded or deserted.
•  A vehicle has been on private property for 48 continuous hours or more without the consent of the owner or lessee of the property, or for 48 continuous hours or more after the consent of the owner has been revoked.
 
RESIDENTS ARE ENCOURAGED TO BE PREPARED FOR EMERGENCIES THROUGH THE “DO 1 THING” EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS PROGRAM
 
The City of Detroit Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Management encourages residents to take small steps toward being prepared for an emergency through the “Do 1 Thing” program.  Do 1 Thing is a twelve-month preparedness program that focuses on a different area of emergency preparedness each month.  For more information, email the program at This email address is being protected from spambots. DETROIT RECREATION DEPT. OFFERS PEE WEE/TOTS PROGRAM
 
Looking for fall activities for your young children?  The Detroit Recreation Department is offering a Pee Wee/Tots Program for children ages 3-5. The program is offered on Saturdays from September 21 through November 30, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Adams/Butzel Complex, located at 10500 Lyndon.  The fee is $20.
 
The program will include: creative activities; arts & crafts; swimming; sing-a-long; education components (numbers, alphabets, colors); cognitive movement and youth activities.

DETROIT CITY CLERK ARCHIVES AND RECORDS MANAGEMENT DIVISION
TO REOPEN IN FEBRUARY IN COLEMAN YOUNG MUNICIPAL CENTER
 
The Office of the City Clerk Archives and Records Management Division is closed while it relocates from Cadillac Tower to the Coleman A. Young Municipal Center, 2 Woodward Avenue – Suite 204.  The office will reopen in February.
