Obviously, the United States of America is divided in many ways these days. The causes are complex, but the new documentary Join or Die presents a compelling case that declining community engagement is a big part of it.
This doc introduces social scientist Robert Putnam’s research on the importance of community to our democracy. He theorizes that the decline in American community engagement over the past decades was a major cause of the unraveling of the nation's social fabric. The documentary goes far beyond numbers, charts, and graphs to present Putnam's research in a fascinating way and suggests ideas for reversing the trend.
